Wooden stools come in both standard heights. Counter height wooden stools have 24 to 27 inch seats for 35 to 37 inch counters and islands. Bar height versions have 29 to 32 inch seats for 41 to 43 inch home bars and pub tables.
Measure from the floor to the underside of your counter, not the top surface, then subtract 10 to 12 inches for legroom. Counter height is the more common of the two in Canadian homes, because it matches standard cabinetry. Leave at least 10 inches of counter overhang for knees, or 15 inches for full meals. Check the leg splay against the overhang before ordering — a stool with angled legs may look like it tucks in when the seat clears but the front legs do not.

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Standing water is what damages a sealed finish, and the join between seat and frame is where it collects. Avoid silicone-based polishes, which build up over time and attract dust into the grain.
